Springer Front-ends
It seems that a most people understand the general concept of typical hydraulic front-end. But, springer front ends, although much more simple in their mechanics, are less intuitively  understood. The diagram below should help demonstrate how the springs are used to absorb shock before it has a chance to transfer to the chopper frame and rider.
